Living away from home is a huge step that is both exciting and slightly nerve-wracking. Whether your child will be studying at our Canterbury or Medway Campus, there are some great options for student accommodation. With so many safe options available, you won't have to worry about where your child is living.

University accommodation

University managed accommodation is the most popular choice for new undergraduate students. All of our accommodation includes bills, so they won't have to worry about paying them separately. There's an accommodation guarantee to all undergraduates who have accepted their offer with us and have applied for accommodation by 31 July.

Whether at Canterbury or Medway, our university accommodation comes with:

  • a choice of en-suite or shared living accommodation
  • 24-hour security
  • all utility bills included
  • high-speed Wi-Fi
  • free personal contents insurance.

All of our accommodation is self-catered, so there is an expectation that students will keep their spaces, both personal and communal, clean and tidy. Self-catering offers much opportunity for them to socialise with their housemates.

Our main accommodation options are located within easy walking distance from teaching or library facilities. This means that they won't have to spend any money on travel as everything is easily accessible.

We highly recommend that you visit our accommodation section to find out about all of the options available. There are also some helpful links below.

Apply for student accommodation

All of our accommodation is allocated on a first come, first served basis. If there is a particular location that your child is interested in, we recommend applying early. The process of applying is very straightforward, and all details can be found on our application page.

Depending on where your child lives, university accommodation costs from £118 per week. We recommend you look at our Canterbury accommodation page, or Medway accommodation page to find out the latest prices. There is an initial instalment to pay when applying. This is set out on the application page, which you can find at the bottom of this page

Good to know: There is now an expectation that parents will contribute towards the cost of living at university, which includes paying for accommodation.

Private accommodation

Almost all new undergraduate students who live away from home will live in halls of residence. However, your child does have the option of renting privately.

Renting privately is slightly different to living in university halls. Many private accommodation options also require your child to pay for rent and bills separately.

What's more, some private rentals are unfurnished whilst others include everything, so it's best to do some research to find what your child wants and what's available.

If this is something your child wishes to pursue, we recommend that you read our private accommodation page. This contains important links and information that you should consider.
