The Office for Students' transparency return

The OFS transparency tables you can download here show the number of students at Canterbury Christ Church University who attained a particular degree or other academic award, or a particular level of such an award, on completion of their course with us. It shows these numbers by reference to:

  • their gender
  • their ethnicity
  • their likely socioeconomic background (based on home postcode prior to coming to university).

It is important to note that the data presented has not been fully contextualised. This means, for example, that you will not be able to see the progress individual students make over their time with us or achievement in the context of their educational performance prior to coming to university.

The CCCU context

The University is proud to welcome and support large numbers of students from nationally under-represented groups. 

The University has reported to the Office for Students that across most groups of under-represented students, it has met or exceeded national averages.

We have a higher number of young Black students than the national average, and mature student numbers are above the sector average, as are disabled student numbers. The number of students with caring responsibilities is higher than the average, as is the number entering the University with a non-A-level qualifications profile.

Analysis shows there is an attainment gap for our Black students and the University is fully committed to reducing this. We are working in partnership with students to understand the barriers to success and to implement measures to reduce the attainment gap.

We are increasing inclusive practice in our curriculum to ensure that all students can easily access, and relate to, the curriculum, whilst supporting them to thrive and attain.

We are focussing on all students with attainment gaps and are improving how we support and engage students.

A number of evidence-based projects are being designed to improve retention, progression and attainment.
