Student Engagement Dashboard

The Student Engagement Dashboard allows staff to look at the student engagement data we already collect in one place to provide deeper insight and support retention and success.

What data does the dashboard show?

We already collect a lot of data about students. The dashboard shows attendance data (physical and digital via Blackboard Collaborate), high level Blackboard engagement, assessment submission to Turnitin, assessment outcomes and library activity (e-library and physical). This data can be used to identify students who may need support as well as providing meaningful data on which to enhance personal tutor meetings.  Essentially, by putting existing engagement data together it will enable us to have a different insight into student engagement in learning and facilitate new and meaningful conversations with students.

Who should use the dashboard?

Given our move to Blended Learning it is more important than ever that we have a simple overview of all forms of student engagement in learning data.

There is a view for Personal Academic Tutors (PATs) and other teaching staff that is searchable by student, and a view for Faculty Administration where cohort engagement can be monitored.  There is also an “at a glance” report for PATs that shows a high-level summary of Blackboard engagement and attendance.

Please use the “Quick start guide” to find out more and to access the “at a glance” Student Engagement Report (Lite) and consider ways in which you can use the data available in the dashboard to have supportive conversations with students about engagement with their studies.

There is further guidance on the right for deeper engagement with the Student Engagement Dashboard. The Student Guide to Learning Analytics at CCCU is available in the download section on the right-hand menu.

How to access the dashboard

Staff can join the Student Engagement Dashboard Teams Site via this link. This hosts the Lite Dashboard and is a space for staff to ask questions and ideas with your colleagues involved in the support of students.

For staff who would like to view and use the full Student Engagement Dashboard through Power BI, please take a look at the “Quick start guide” for the pre-requisites for access and links to the training.

There is a development plan for the dashboard, and we will be adding more functionality as we go forward in response to user feedback.
