Student Engagement Dashboard
A sub-group of the Retention and Withdrawals Task Force has rapidly developed a student engagement dashboard. This new dashboard will allow staff to look at the student engagement data we already collect but in one place thereby giving us a deeper insight into student engagement that you cannot get from one data source alone (e.g. attendance). Given our move to Blended Learning it is more important than ever that we have a simple overview of all forms of student engagement in learning data.
What data does the dashboard show?
We already collect a lot of data about students. The new dashboard shows attendance data (physical and digital via Blackboard Collaborate), high level Blackboard engagement, assessment submission to Turnitin, assessment outcomes and library activity (e-library and physical). This data can be used to identify students who may need support as well as providing meaningful data on which to enhance personal tutor meetings. Essentially, by putting existing engagement data together it will enable us to have a different insight into student engagement in learning and facilitate new and meaningful conversations with students.
What’s happening with the dashboard?
There is a development plan for the dashboard and we will be adding more functionality as we go forward in response to user feedback. We are currently undertaking a slow roll-out of the full report and developing training materials.
There is a view for Personal Academic Tutors (PATs) and other teaching staff that is searchable by student, and a view for Faculty Administration where cohort engagement can be monitored. There is also an “at a glance” report for PATs that shows a high-level summary of Blackboard engagement and attendance.
The summary student engagement report (the “at a glance” report) is now available for use, please use the “Quick start guide” to access the report and consider ways in which you can use the data available in the dashboard to have supportive conversations with students about engagement with their studies. There are other forms of engagement data that are not visible through the dashboard, guidance on how to access these are also in the download section on the right.
The Student Guide to Learning Analytics at CCCU is available in the download section on the right-hand menu.
