The Research Centre for Children, Families and Communities (RCfCFC) welcomes applications for MPhil/PhD studies in ‘Contemporary Studies in Childhood, Youth and Parenthood’.

The Research Centre for Children, Families and Communities (RCfCFC) is a research intensive Centre which made a central contribution to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF). The RCfCFC has an extremely strong research culture and offers a wide range of research opportunities. We embrace an holistic, cross disciplinary approach to high-quality research, with a focus on a commitment to enhance the lives and life chances of children, young people, families and communities.

  • Adoption and looked after children;
  • Unemployment, poverty and social exclusion (including social regeneration).

Professor Sacha Powell

  • Policies and provision nationally and internationally for early childhood education and care (birth to three);
  • Critical & interpretative research perspectives;
  • Exploratory applications in research and practice of ecological systems theory.

Dr Sarah Christie

  • Social support and motherhood;
  • The impact of motherhood on women's lives;
  • Motherhood and society.

Mrs Joanna Apps

  • Models and 'measurement' of family wellbeing;
  • School-parent communication and partnerships;
  • Social and ethnic inequalities in family and child outcomes.
