We are pleased to announce that invitations to register for most courses starting September 2025 will be sent by the end of August.

You need to register to officially become a Canterbury Christ Church University student, access the online services you need for your studies and be able to receive your student loan or bursary (if you’re entitled to one).

To be eligible to register, you must have:

When we are ready for you to register, you’ll receive two emails within 24 hours of one another. These emails will direct you to complete two tasks:

We will be inviting eligible students to register in batches, so please check the email account associated with your application from the afternoon of 18 August - but don’t worry if you don’t hear from us straight away.

And while you wait for your invitation to register, here are 7 things you can be doing to get registration-ready.

1. Test your MyRecord log-in and check your personal email address

You need to register in MyRecord, so now's a good time to check you can get in via the 'Applicant Login'.

  • Your applicant username is your Student ID (you will find this at the top of all correspondence from us to do with your application) or the email address you used for your application.
  • Your password is the password you chose yourself if you’ve used MyRecord already. If this is the first time you have used MyRecord, or you can't remember your password, just click on the 'Forgotten your password?' button to get it re-set.
This is an image of MyRecord showing where applicants or former students need to enter their login details.
You'll need to register in MyRecord, using the 'Applicant Login.

Top Tip

Once in MyRecord, please check that the 'Personal Email Address' we've got for you is one that you currently use, as this is the email address to which your invitations to register and create your computing account will be sent. So, if you can no longer access your 'Personal Email Address' as stated in MyRecord (for example, it was your school or college email, or the email for your agent if you're an international student), now is the time to update it.

2. Make sure you have no outstanding clearance checks

Once you're in MyRecord, check the tiles within the 'Application(s)' tab to make sure there is nothing which might prevent you from being invited to register. If any of the tiles within the 'Application(s)' area are coloured red, this means there is something you must do. For example:

3. Choose an appropriate photograph for your student record

As part of your registration, you will need to upload a colour photo of yourself as your official Canterbury Christ Church University photo. This will also go on your Student ID Card (if you are eligible for one) and needs to be:

  • Of your head and shoulders only (like a passport photo)
  • Without any filters
  • In colour, and taken against a light background
  • Taken recently
  • Taken of you facing forward with your eyes open and clearly visible (with no sunglasses, tinted glasses or hair across your eyes)
  • Free from reflection or excessive shadows
  • Of you on your own (no other people or objects in the photo)
  • Taken of the full head, without any covering, unless it is worn for religious beliefs or medical reasons
  • Taken with nothing covering your face.

4. Decide on your emergency/trusted contact and ask their permission to share their details

We'll ask you to provide us with details of someone whom you trust, whom we can contact in the event of an emergency or if we become very concerned about your welfare. Wherever possible, this should be someone based in the UK.

Your named contact must give their consent for you to share their details, and be willing for us to contact them in the event of an emergency – so now is the time to ask them. All the information you supply will be treated entirely confidentially. Find out more.

5. Check with your parents or guardians about their occupation and higher education

Some of the questions we will ask during registration are designed to help us support our students as much as possible, and to enable us to meet our obligations to the government.

We are required to ask whether your parents, step-parents or guardians have any higher education qualifications, plus – if you’re under 21 – the nature of their job. So if you’re unsure, again now is the time to ask. All the information you supply will be treated entirely confidentially.

6. Take photos of your ID and qualifications documents, where necessary

We need a photo of a valid form of identification for each of our students, to confirm their identity and immigration status. We can accept photos taken with a smartphone; however, they need to be a photo of the original document, rather than a photograph of a photograph. All text must be legible.

Valid forms of identification are as follows:

  • A current passport or
  • A National Identity Card or
  • A Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or
  • A UK birth certificate plus photo ID, e.g. photocard driving licence
  • An expired UK passport plus birth certificate or driving licence and recent utility bill.

Please ensure the name and date of birth on your documentation match the personal details that you have supplied as part of your application.

If you don't have any of the above forms of identification, please contact registration@canterbury.ac.uk for advice.

We may also need to see photos of some of your original qualifications. For example, if you are studying any Healthcare courses, Primary Education, Psychology or Engineering we will need to see evidence of your GCSEs.

7. Look up your Unique Learner Number

Most learners aged 14+ who have come through the UK education system have a Unique Learner Number (ULN), which is a 10-digit number given to you by your school or Further Education college. It may also printed on your exam certificates. We will ask for your Unique Learner Number during your registration (although it's not mandatory for you to supply it). Please see here for more information about what your ULN is, and where you will find it.

It’s important that you register as soon as you’re invited to do so, to ensure you receive your student finance on your course start date, and to enable your Course team to make firm plans for your arrival such as setting you up on Blackboard, the university’s Virtual Learning Environment
