The project is led by University of Portsmouth, working in collaboration with University of Arts, London; University of Brighton; Canterbury Christ Church University and University of Winchester. The intervention aims to close the attainment gap in student experience, retention, progression, academic attainment and employability by changing mindsets and eroding stereotype threat and implicit bias as barriers to learning.
The first year of the project is nearing completion and a second phase will begin in September 2018, with the project ending in February 2019.

In 2017-18, Canterbury Christ Church developed a series of workshops and learning resources based on materials shared between the five participating universities. The project officer, Liam Greenslade made a significant contribution by introducing the concept of ‘identity safety’ (Steele 2010), an antidote to stereotype threat, into the workshops. He has also gone on to lead on the development of materials around ‘decolonising the curriculum’, an important movement to ensure HE curricula expand to include non-Western, multi-gendered knowledge.
