Teach First Privacy Notice

The following Privacy Notice related to Teach First should be read in conjunction with the University Privacy Notice available here

Data relating to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced disclosure clearance

During your time as a student of Canterbury Christ Church University, the University will need to share information, for safeguarding reasons, about the status of your enhanced DBS clearance, with the following institutions:

- Teach First

- Your Teach First placement school

- Schools hosting events during the Summer Institute period.

- Schools hosting training days during the full two-year programme.

While you are a student of the University, the following personal information can be shared with Teach First and with Placement and venue hosting schools, without any requirement by us to obtain further consent from you:

- Your enhanced DBS clearance certificate number (the clearance you will hold with Canterbury Christ Church University)

- The effective date of that clearance

Whenever we share your information with Teach First or appropriate schools, we will require strict compliance with data protection legislation from the recipient.

The sharing of this information is a public task; the processing of this data is necessary for us to perform a task in the public interest or for our official functions, and the task has a clear basis in law – namely the safeguarding of vulnerable groups.

Data relating to progress and assessments

During your time as a student of the University, we will share information about your progress with Teach First and with your Teach First placement school. The purpose is to ensure that all of these entities can monitor and support you appropriately as part of the provision in relation to your training. While you are a student of the University, the following personal information can be shared with Teach First and with your employer:

- Information about your assessments and academic grades;

- Information about your progression;

- Information about any additional support you may require or have been given; and

- Information about the continuation and completion of your studies.

Whenever we share your information with Teach First or your placement school, we will require strict compliance with data protection legislation from the recipient.

The legal basis for this is contractual; for the performance of a contract to education. We need to monitor your progress to enable to support you in the completion of your programme.

Special Category Data

Where special category data is collected and processed by the University this will be on the legal basis of explicit consent of the student. During your time as a student of the university you may share special categories of personal data with us, for example information relating to your health and wellbeing, in order to receive support from us. This information will only be disclosed to Teach First or to your placement school with your explicit prior consent. You may withdraw your consent at any time without giving a reason. We will stop processing the data after you withdraw your consent.

You are, of course, free to share any such information with Teach First or with your placement school yourself.
