In School Market Research

It is important that we look after any information you have given us about yourself to make sure that it is safe and correct.

It is also important that you can know what information we hold and have a choice as to what you want us to do with it.

What is our reason for asking for information about you?

We are talking to you because we have asked for some information which we call Market Research. This information helps Canterbury Christ Church make decisions on how to help students like yourself get the best from higher education and universities. It is on this basis only that we ask to keep this information about you

What do we mean by ‘information about you’?

The type of information we have asked for includes things like what you study, what part of the country you live in, what you like, what you think about things, what job you might want to do and whether you would like to go on to university. We may also have collected information such as your age, gender, what school you attend. This helps us group together what you say with other people similar to you.

For market research we never identify you in person when we show it to other people. We look at groupings of people for example “this is what all boys aged 13-14 say” . Sometime we may record our conversation to help us remember what some of the important facts are. We keep this for a while and then delete it. However, for the time that we keep this information you have the right to say what we can or can’t do with it. You also have the right to ask us to delete some or all of it. Where is your information stored and for how long?

All your information is stored securely on our computer system we may keep it up to 12 months, unless you have asked us not to do this. After this time anything that links what you said to you personally will be deleted. (for example; your name, email address, photographs etc)

What regulations is this based on?

We are following regulations outlined in something called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018 and Data Protection Act 2018 and Market Research Society (MRS) codes of practice. These are all to ensure your information is fairly stored and you are aware of your rights.
