Student Katie Reflects on KWU Visit to Canterbury

1st Year Child Nursing Student, Katie Schofield, reflects on a visit from Konan Women's University to Canterbury and being a buddy to the visiting students

I really enjoyed meeting the Japanese students and lecturers. It was very interesting to learn about the variations in culture and the differences in nursing care, especially in paediatric palliative care. I was given the opportunity to educate some of the students on some British traditions, such as different foods and occasions such as afternoon tea, and was able to learn about Japanese traditions, such as tea ceremonies.Although the language barrier was apparent at times, the students and I found different ways of communicating, such as using pictures or demonstrations. I loved having the opportunity to get to know the students on a more personal level, especially when me and another student helped with an activity after the session. I was able to tell the students what I loved about CCCU, whilst also learning about what they enjoyed about  KWU, and learning about their interests and hobbies. I hope the students enjoyed their time in Canterbury and I wish them all the best in their future training and I hope to see them when I visit KWU. Thank you for having me on the day and I hope to be involved in many more international activities/exchanges.
