A Senior Lecturer's Experience of Being a Buddy

Nicole South, Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing writes about her experiences of being a buddy.

Transcultural nursing is an essential component of healthcare today and spending time with the students and staff from Japan was such a wonderful opportunity to share different practices and traditions.

I found the experience extremely thought provoking and it developed my understanding of Japanese culture and their healthcare system, exploring the variations across the globe.

Nurses and Student Nurses must acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in cultural competency to ensure patient satisfaction and positive outcomes and I feel that this type of experience develops our students personally and professionally.  In addition, this experience supports our students to become global citizens of the future.
