About the School

The School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social work brings together into one vibrant and dynamic community:

Our aim is to provide you with a high quality learning experience to enable you to realise your ambitions to become a registered nurse, midwife or social worker and to continue your development through a range of continuing professional development opportunities.

We are committed to providing you with a supportive environment so you can develop the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care that is person-centred, compassionate, safe and effective. We value working with others and have strong partnerships with a range of health care providers and encourage patient and public involvement in our programmes.

We offer degree programmes that are approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to enable you to become a registered adult, child or mental health nurse, midwife or social worker. Half of your time spent learning on these programmes will take place in placements in real world environments. You will also have the opportunity to study interprofessionally with students from other health and social care professions.

We offer a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules and programmes at both undergraduate (Bachelor's degree) and postgraduate (Masters) levels. We also provide support for MPhil and PhD studies.

Our staff are committed to furthering their own knowledge and skills and therefore are involved in a variety of research and scholarship activities.
