Unit 3: Assistive Technology for Posture and Mobility

This free online training is aimed at beginners and frontline healthcare professionals and students, as well as design and bioengineers who wish to refresh or gain knowledge and skills in the management of posture and mobility issues using Assistive Technology (AT).

The content is designed to enhance confidence and competence in basic assessment and problem-solving techniques, leading to the provision of suitable AT to facilitate function, social participation and enhance quality of life. By the end of the unit, you will be able to:

  • Familiarise yourself with theory of posture and seating
  • Appreciate the mutual dependency of function and mobility
  • Understand the risks associated with poor balance and posture and how this may be managed with use of AT
  • Familiarise yourself with frequent impairments associated with posture and seating and consider alternative AT
  • Apply your learning and problem solving to simulated case studies

The content is accessible via an online platform called Moodle. It should take 1-2 hours to complete, and you will not have to complete it all at once. There is a short quiz at the end to test your learning, and an evaluation form to provide feedback. Once you have completed the Unit, you will be issued with a certificate of completion.

If you would like to enrol on Unit 3, please go to adaptcccu.moodle.school and create a new account. Please note, once you have registered and verified your email address, you will see a message saying that you are not able to enrol on the course. This is because the CCCU ADAPT team need to verify your details before you are granted access to the module. This will usually be done within a couple of hours, but please allow for up to two working days to receive an email confirming your access has been granted (please check your spam/junk folder).

If you have any queries or encounter any issues, please email adapt.training@canterbury.ac.uk.
