Unit 4: Assistive Technology for Communication

This free online training is aimed at healthcare professionals, students and those who work with AT who wish to refresh or gain knowledge and skills in Assistive Technologies for enhancing communication.

This unit is designed for learners who have some understanding of AT in general, but would like to learn more about AT use for those who have communication issues. By the end of the Unit, you will be able to:

  • Appreciate the importance of communication in relation to health and well-being and quality of life.
  • Begin to identify and assess communication impairments.
  • Consider how AT may be used on its own or as part of a wider solution for communication difficulties, in a client-centred way.
  • Consider how personal, contextual and environmental factors may facilitate  or hinder communication.

The content is accessible via an online platform called Moodle. It should take no more than one hour to complete, and you will not have to complete it all at once. There is a short quiz at the end to test your learning, and an evaluation form to provide feedback. Once you have completed the Unit, you will be issued with a certificate of completion.

If you would like to enrol on Unit 4, please go to adaptcccu.moodle.school and create a new account. Please note, once you have registered and verified your email address, you will see a message saying that you are not able to enrol on the course. This is because the CCCU ADAPT team need to verify your details before you are granted access to the module. This will usually be done within a couple of hours, but please allow for up to two working days to receive an email confirming your access has been granted (please check your spam/junk folder).

If you have any queries or encounter any issues, please email adapt.training@canterbury.ac.uk.
