During my internship, I was mainly involved with research around the CEFEUS report on SMEs (Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises) and the Rural Economy, which included staying on top of developing news stories and working with Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce. I also oversaw the 'CEFEUS Guide to the General Election', which focused mostly on Kent but also included narrative on the national picture and the South East. Finally, I assisted with general administrative tasks and the writing of blog posts.
The internship allowed me an opportunity to get involved with some really important debates over the summer, from the General Election to Brexit to even Donald Trump. I have gained a raft of new skills, and in particular feel that my writing has improved tremendously, especially as I begin to prepare to write my dissertation.
Above all else, it has given me the opportunity to confirm that I want a career with an International Relations/Politics element when I graduate whilst networking with a broad group of people. I would strongly recommend everyone looks at interning as it adds great value to your C.V. and shows potential employers that you are passionate about your field.
