The Politics and International Relations course will challenge you to think critically, consistently. To assess conflicting opinions and understand perspectives outside of your immediate comfort zone, as political students should aim to do.

Looking back on my 3 years studying Politics and International Relations, I absolutely loved the variety of modules made available to us. Highlights included enacting simulations of real-world political institutions supported by a performative evaluation. With my studies bolstered by module combinations such as Foreign Policy Analysis, International Justice and Human Rights, the American Government, the EU, Statistical Analysis, and Philosophy my interest was always spoilt for choice at every avenue; vital if like me at the time, you too are not yet sure what area of politics you would like to specialise in.

After producing two first class dissertations on African development and justice on the continent; I obtained volunteer and internships at AFFORD and AbleChildAfrica respectively, two of the biggest African focused charities based in the UK. Currently I am leading a research project on the Boko Haram insurgency and food crisis in Northeast Nigeria, in addition to serving as the assistant campaigns officer for Shelter.

If you are considering studying a Politics degree at CCCU I would highly recommend it. The lecturers were a massive reason for why I enjoyed the course so much – and I think this is the most determining factor in how well you do on a course, ensuring you enjoy it. I loved my course and this motivated me to study harder, contribute in lectures and really strive to excel.

Leaving CCCU with my First Class Degree is undoubtedly a combination of having an amazing support network in the staff, and a fascinating course which challenged and engaged me at every opportunity.

I will cherish the time I spent here, the connections I made here, and the goals it sparked within me.
