We are committed to delivering your graduation ceremony when it is safe to do so.
If you have any changes to your contact details, please inform us via the update my details page of our Alumni Hub.
Please note that due to COVID-19 there will be no extra guest tickets available.
The health and safety of our students, staff and guests remains our priority and we will continue to follow the latest government guidelines. Whilst we will work hard toward delivering your graduation ceremony, we recognise that the path of the pandemic remains unpredictable and so please be aware that the arrangements could be subject to change.
It is with deep regret that we have taken the very difficult decision to postpone the forthcoming Graduation ceremonies due to take place at Canterbury Cathedral/Rochester Cathedral on 27 and 28 January 2022 and 4 February 2022.
We believe that the risk associated with holding large scale indoor events with mixed age groups is currently too great, given the rapidly growing transmission of the Omicron variant and associated hospital admissions, as well as Government guidance around working from home and reducing social contact.
It is not a decision we have taken at all lightly, particularly given the close proximity to the event itself. The safety of you, your guests and all our staff and suppliers remains the highest priority, and we hope therefore that you can understand why this decision has been taken.
We are proud that so many of our graduates are now key frontline workers and know that you appreciate the moral responsibility we have to the wider community at this time. A large number of our graduating students work for the NHS, as well as within the local schools/education setting. By holding Graduation ceremonies at this time over three days, we would be contributing to a significantly depleted NHS workforce, and also adding to staffing pressures within the school environment.
In addition, with the current high infection rate, it is likely that a number of our graduating students would be unable to attend the ceremonies due to themselves or their guests having to self-isolate. It is important that as many of you as possible have the opportunity to attend.
Graduation ceremonies are a day of celebration for you and your guests. We would wish for you to have the best possible Graduation experience but the current uncertainties, and the availability of staffing in particular, make this very challenging and has been a key consideration in our decision. We look forward to celebrating with you at a future date when safe to do so.
We are committed to delivering you a special Graduation ceremony.
At this point in time, we are unable to confirm when your graduation will be rescheduled. As soon as more information is available, we will contact you via email. We would also advise to keep an eye on our webpages as we will keep this up to date with any new announcements.
The decision to defer the Graduation ceremonies has been taken by the University and not Canterbury or Rochester cathedrals. Therefore, please do not contact them about the deferral or an alternative ceremony date.
