Experts by Experience

The Library contributes to the University’s EbE work by providing a collection of published texts written by patients/clients/carers which shed light on their illness/condition/situation from their own perspective.

The Experts by Experience collection is comprised of non-fiction e-books and e-audiobooks and is designed to complement our collection of academic textbooks. We hope these texts will help students achieve a greater understanding of the lived experience of the populations they will work with whilst on placement and in their future career. However, the memoirs/biographies available can be read as much for enjoyment as for academic and professional learning.

All individual texts in the collection can be found via LibrarySearch but the discrete collection can be browsed on the Libby app.

Enjoy Libby on almost any device! Download the Libby app on a phone or tablet or access in a web browser. The Libby app is available on Apple, Android, Amazon, Microsoft and other platforms. Using Libby, you can browse, borrow, return and reserve items, as well as download them to read or listen to when you’re offline - check out their onboarding video.

When you first download Libby, you must sign in with your CCCU account using the “Sign in with a library card” option. Once you’re signed in, you’ll have full access to all our resources subscribed through Libby. You can even have multiple libraries (such as your local public library) set up in the same app.

In Libby, scroll down to find the Experts by Experience collection. There are some great titles to choose from such as Jean-Dominique Bauby’s The Diving bell and the butterfly or Lemn Sissay’s My name is why?. We’d love to hear your suggestions for new titles. We will consider all suggestions but may not be able to purchase all recommendations. Just email your book recommendation to health.librarian@canterbury.ac.uk
