Learning Outcomes

An Expert by Experience (EbE) is a person affected by illness or disability that has recent personal experience of health and/or social care services. This includes service users, their families, or carers. An EbE contributes their unique lived experience and perspective to improve education, health and care outcomes such as improvements in service delivery and how professionals offer care to their patients. Sometimes you may see an EbE referred to as a service user or person with lived experience.

The work of an EbE helps students to better understand the views and experiences of those using health and social care services. This module will introduce you to our Experts by Experience book collection, provide guidance on finding sources about or authored by an EbE.

  • Locate and access books authored by an EbE
  • Know how to find resources about or by and EbE in the University’s online collections
  • Keep up to date with new research involving EbE
  • Reflect on how an EbE can help you to improve your care quality
