Augustine House Ceremony
Regretfully, due to coronavirus (COVID-19) affecting the country, the University has decided, after careful consideration, to take the decision to postpone the forthcoming Award Ceremony at Augustine House on Saturday, 21 March 2020. At this stage we are unable to confirm a rescheduled date.
This difficult decision has not been taken lightly but we have a duty of care to our students, their guests and our staff due to the ongoing coronavirus issue. We regret the inconvenience but it is important to minimise the risk.
You will be eligible for either a refund of ticket(s) purchased and gown hire, or alternatively you can defer tickets and gown hire to the rescheduled date once confirmed.
We will be contacting all affected students by email with further information and next steps.
When will my award ceremony be rescheduled?
At this stage we are unable to confirm a rescheduled date but we will keep you updated via your personal email once a definite date is confirmed. We will do our upmost to accommodate another date in 2020.
What happens next?
We will email all students involved with the following options:
- to cancel now and receive a refund on tickets and organise a refund for gown hire/photography
- to defer to a new date once confirmed. If the new date is not possible for you, you can defer again or cancel and get a refund at that point.
You will need to respond to the email and advise of your preferred option (refund or defer) by Friday, 20 March 2020 at the latest.
Will I be eligible for a refund on my tickets?
You are eligible for a refund of ticket(s) purchased, alternatively we can defer your tickets to the rescheduled date (once confirmed). If the new date is not possible for you, you can defer again or cancel and get a refund at that point.
Will I be able to get a refund for my gown hire and Photography?
Yes. Ede & Ravenscroft provide the gowning and photography for graduation. You will need to contact this supplier directly to request a refund for your gown and/or photography.
This can be done online at www.gownhire.co.uk before the automated refund deadline. If you are unable to cancel the order online, please call Ede & Ravenscroft on 01223 861854 or email them at firstname.lastname@example.org with order details, so they can process the refund.
If you would like to transfer your order, to the rearranged ceremony, once this date is confirmed, please let Ede & Ravenscroft know by calling or emailing to the details above to confirm your new ceremony date at least 21 days before the new ceremony date so they can process the transfer. Alternatively, if you are undecided as to whether you would like to attend the rearranged ceremony, you will be able to request a refund and place a new order online or over the telephone once you have made your decision.
Will I get a refund for travel and accommodation costs?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer any compensation for accommodation, travel arrangements etc. due to the current situation being outside of the University’s control. We would advise students to liaise with these companies directly for further advice.
Will I receive a new invitation when the ceremony has been rescheduled?
Yes, we will keep you up-to-date with any developments via your personal email address. The rescheduled event will be treated as a new event, for which you will be sent a new email invitation.
If I can’t attend the rescheduled date can I defer to a later date or receive a refund?
Yes. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled date, you may request a deferral to the next ceremony and we will do our best to accommodate you.

How will I receive my award certificate and Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR)?
Your certificate/transcript are independent of the award ceremony and are administered by the Student Records & Assessments Team. We aim to issue your certificate and HEAR as soon as possible after the Board of Examiners meeting at which the award was ratified. These are sent to your permanent address.
