Migration and Local Governance

Profile summary

Rachael holds a scholarship in Migration and Local Governance. She is looking at the impact of Localism on the ability of local authorities to facilitate migrant integration. She has published a book chapter on the topic called UK Localism: Unprecedented Opportunity for Local Migrant Integration Policies or ‘White Elephant’?.

Biography

Rachael holds a Masters in World Trade and International Development from the University of Greenwich and a BA in European Studies with French from Kent University. She has also undertaken modules in Anthropology from Goldsmiths University as part of her Masters.

She has extensive project management and research experience on migration related issues both overseas and in the UK. She spent 4 years managing DfID funded programmes aimed at preventing brain drain within the health system in Somaliland and 7 years working on EU funded transitional mobility projects. In the UK she has worked with the Department for Education and the Department for Business Innovation and Skills on behalf of the 157 Group on aspects relating to community cohesion and Prevent.  

She currently works for the South East England Strategic Migration Partnership (SESPM), one of 12 regional Strategic Migration Partnerships in the UK that help coordinate activities relating to migration between central government, local authorities, public services, NGOs and voluntary and community organisations.
