Europe: From Continent to Community

The European Union is more than a pooling of sovereignty. It is based on a common history, a shared sense of culture and centuries of varied forms of political integration between nations. However, especially in the UK, there is much misunderstanding both of the processes and procedures of the EU and of the history that has brought us to this point.

The module will help students develop critical thinking skills that are required by all employers. They will learn to work in groups, write concise documents and present their thoughts in a clear and coherent fashion. Based on the success of her long-standing module Europe: From Continent to Community, Dr Sarah Lieberman has launched a new degree programme at Canterbury Christ Church University: European Politics. At level 4, the module Europe: From Continent to Community will be the foundation upon which the new degree rests, where students learn about the integration process, the factors that led to the formation of the Union, and the reasons we are better together, united in diversity, than apart and separated by difference.
