Tourism and Events Research

Staff in Events, Tourism and Hospitality, along with other staff in the University, are engaged in a range of high level research and consultancy across tourism and events. Our work includes consultancy, research and practical advice for business, as well as cutting edge academic research into important contemporary trends.

Tourism and Events Research Hub

The Tourism and Events Research Hub aims to be at the centre of tourism and events in the region. We draw on a range of expertise across economic impacts, social impact assessment, branding, marketing and market research as well as providing training and continuous professional development. We welcome enquires from across the sector, formal and informal.

Tourism and society

Our staff publish research and write on a range of themes, including volunteer tourism, cultural tourism, ecotourism, economic impacts and marketing. Our researchers include internationally recognised scholars and others establishing  a reputation in their  field. GELT will be hosting a major international conference on tourism and events in 2016, bringing researchers and experts  from across the world to Canterbury.

COaST

Staff are involved with the University’s COaST group, specialising in research into the role of culture on social and economic regeneration on Kent’s coast.

Other research

As Canterbury is a city famed for its heritage, it is unsurprising that the University features  a range of research and cultural output relating to tourism. See for example the South East Archive of Seaside Photography, Directed by Dr Karen Shepherson.
