Canterbury Christ Church University is proud to sponsor Pride Canterbury for the eighth year running, celebrating LGBTQIA+ pride with the University and Canterbury community.

This year’s Pride Canterbury will take place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June, beginning with a parade through Canterbury High Street, and iconic live entertainment in the Dane John Gardens.

Pride Canterbury is a powerful celebration of LGBTQIA+ identity. Pride marches began in Chicago, LA, New York and San Francisco in 1970 following the Stonewall protests, raising awareness of the discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA+ community and inspiring the widening LGBTQIA+ movement. Canterbury’s own first Pride demo took place in 1973, and today Pride is celebrated in cities all over the world.

The two-day extravaganza will open with a colourful parade winding through Canterbury city centre, followed by a star-studded lineup of artists celebrating in the Dane John Gardens, including performances from Baga Chipz, Big Bruvaz, Booty Luv, Katie Price, and many more.

Over the years, the University has become a key partner of Pride Canterbury and has supported the event in many ways. The University has a thriving LGBTQIA+ staff network and LGBTQIA+ student society, and the sponsorship of Pride is part of the dynamic range of activities and support the University offers to the LGBTQIA+ community and allies.

The University will be hosting a stall in the Dane John Gardens with a selfie flower wall, the chance to write a message to your future self, freebies and more.
