Profile summary

I am the Learning & Research Librarian for all education courses in the School of Teacher Education and the School of Humanities and Education Studies. I joined CCCU in 2002 as an Assistant Librarian after gaining my MSc in Library and Information Studies at Aberystwyth. My trainee library year was spent working at the fascinating London Library, where I realised that vast amounts of literature are only useful if they are well organised and made accessible to people – and knew I wanted to be a librarian.

I work closely with academic staff to integrate information and digital literacy skills into their programmes through creating targeted learning materials and teaching students in workshops and through tutorials. I enjoy helping students to achieve their potential at university and developing their lifelong learning skills.

I also support researchers and advise on the library collection development for education courses. My own areas of research interest include students’ transitions to university and how they develop an understanding of scholarly information and their own information searching skills; exploring active learning techniques in teaching; and investigating online technologies to support students remotely.

I have recently completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice which enabled me to reflect on and develop my own teaching skills and I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
