Digital Learning Systems and Infrastructure Developer
I joined the Digital Learning and Learning Design team in 2014 after spending three years working in a range of roles across the University, including HR&OD and the Teach First programme. In each role I was able to see first-hand a variety of the needs and use cases that staff and students have for the tools that comprise the University’s Learning Platform Suite.
As the team's Digital Learning Systems and Infrastructure Developer I am a system-level administrator for Blackboard and the tools that plug into it, including Turnitin, PebblePad, ReCap, Collaborate. My role is to ensure that these cloud-based systems meet the current standards and demands of the University, are secure, and that any updates are well tested. I have a responsibility to forge strong relationships with the vendors for these services for escalating technical issues and configuration needs, as well as to play an active part in their communities to represent the University voice. Through this work I have become a part of Blackboard's 'Community Leadership Circle' and am co-lead for the international Ally User Group.
I am involved in a variety of projects, ranging in scope from school-centric to service wide, consulting on technical requirements and options. Highlights from recent years include: in 2020 the setup of a stand-alone Blackboard instance for KMMS; in 2022 I was a core team member in the project to move the Blackboard hosting into the cloud, establishing the more modern 'Ultra' to the University along with updates to other key services, and migration of KMMS into a single environment; and in the last few years have been responsible within the team for delivering automation to Blackboard, working with the SITS Integration team to align SITS and Blackboard for auto-enrolment of students onto modules and auto-creation of Blackboard modules.
In 2023 I won the 'Excellence in Working Together' Staff Recognition award.
