Profile summary

Having gained my BSc Computing Science from University of Aberdeen, I started my career in I.T. support, before transitioning into Technology Enhanced Learning when I joined Robert Gordon University as a Learning Technologist in 2003. I have spent my career since supporting and developing the use of learning technologies within the HE sector. I joined Canterbury Christ Church University in September 2016 to use that experience to lead the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Team.

In 2019 I completed an MSc Blended and Online Education from Edinburgh Napier University.

Subject expertise

Throughout my career there have been three subjects that I have spent significant time investigating and developing – VLE use, classroom response systems, and lecture capture. In my time at CCCU, I have been able to advance the discussion around all of these, and I am particularly pleased to be leading the Digital Learning Capture project which will introduce lecture capture opportunities to the university in 2019.

I am strongly engaged in developing the role of digital capabilities within the University, and chair the Digital Capabilities Working Group. I have a particular interest in the concepts around Digital Identity, and how this impacts upon the use of technology for teaching and learning.

I am also heavily focused on the impact of Digital Accessibility within learning and teaching, and have been leading the University's approach to improving digital accessibility.

As well as my role leading the TEL Team, I am also Service Manager for Turnitin, our platform for assessment submission, authenticity, marking and feedback, and for our upcoming digital learning capture platform.
