Biographical Note

Project Title

An ethnographic study of the identity construction of people engaged in university work who have been exposed to different cultural backgrounds: A consideration of the role of language in cultural identity.

Research Outline

Language and culture as contested notions are represented from different lenses by members representing different cultural backgrounds. This study looks at how people engaged in university work in Britain who have come from different cultural backgrounds talk about themselves, and how they construct their cultural identities vis-à-vis their cultural backgrounds. The study also questions the role of language in self-identification.
