At Canterbury Christ Church University we are committed to supporting you to succeed in your studies and your future career.

What are our Student Futures Commitments?

Our Student Futures Commitment has been co-created with students and the Students' Union, and is our pledge on what truly matters to your student experience and sustainable future.

  • Your student journey
  • Your community
  • Your learning experience
  • Your health and wellbeing
  • Your student voice
  • Your future

How we are delivering on our Student Futures Commitment

We are committed to providing support at all the key milestones of your student journey, from before you arrive to the start of each new academic year, from assessments to graduation.

Before you arrive, our Welcome Hub provides you with all the information you need to prepare and settle in at CCCU, including bespoke Course Essentials. During Welcome Week your Course Team will provide a dedicated welcome and induction, whilst University services are available to explain the support they offer. And the Students’ Union Freshers Fayre is a great opportunity to get involved in student life and make new friends.

Our Welcome Back Hub supports continuing students to prepare for the new academic year and level of study. Current students can find out about all the services and support available throughout their time at CCCU via the student webpages. Graduating students also have a dedicated section on the website about preparing for life after university.

We are committed to delivering outstanding, inclusive and compassionate teaching, an innovative curriculum, and a supportive learning environment.

We will empower students to thrive and realise their potential as courageous, collaborative, creative leaders ready to solve global challenges and shape sustainable futures.

We continuously update our curriculum so that our courses reflect the latest research and practice from the industry and public sector.

Your course and module handbooks ensure that you have access to the information you need about your learning, teaching and assessments. You will receive regular feedback on your assessments, where you are doing well and how you can improve.

We provide a range of support and resources to ensure that you reach your full academic potential including Personal Academic Tutors, Learning Skills Hub, Productivity Tools, and Peer Mentors. Our libraries at Canterbury, Medway and Salomons contain study spaces and modern facilities, with access to books, print journals, e-journals, e-books through LibrarySearch.

We are committed to fostering a strong sense of belonging through a compassionate, cohesive, ethical and inclusive community where every member is valued and treated with equity and respect.

At CCCU we provide lots of ways for you to connect with others, whether it is joining a Students’ Union sports club or society, coming along to one of the many free events, meeting a peer mentor, sharing our passion for sustainability, or becoming a student ambassador.

Look out for our Academic Development and Personal Development Weeks which give you time to broaden your horizons, learn something new and set future goals. And check out our volunteering website for opportunities to make a difference to our wider local community.

At Canterbury Christ Church University you can Expect Respect whilst you study with us. We are committed to making our campuses, social and teaching spaces welcoming, respectful and inclusive places for all. We are proud to celebrate and support our diverse communities, including our Black History 365 and LGBTQIA+ event programmes.

We recognise that different students are on different journeys and have different needs. Whatever your personal background or circumstance, we want to ensure that you are represented, heard and included in the support and opportunities we offer. Find out what support we are giving to our different types of students including disabled, international, commuting, mature, foundation and placement students.

We are committed to enabling every student to thrive at CCCU by nurturing their physical and emotional wellbeing through our compassionate and supportive networks.

We will invest in accessible, engaging, well-connected digital, technological, physical, social and cultural learning and work environments.

Our Student Wellbeing Team provides a wide variety of confidential support and advice throughout your time with us, covering financial, personal and academic matters as well as extensive support for those students with a disability or mental health condition.

Through our partnership with Spectrum.Life, students have 24/7 immediate access to qualified mental health professionals via telephone and WhatsApp. There is a network of support both within and beyond the University, providing a range of wellbeing services including the Chaplaincy, Students’ Union, Nightline and Student Space

At CCCU we will help you build your supportive community with a range of free wellbeing events for you to make friends in a relaxed environment and opportunities to meet like-minded people.

Whether you’d like to be more active and get a little fitter, or you’re serious about training and competing, there are lots of opportunities for you.  Sport, active health and wellbeing are at the heart of the Canterbury Christ Church University experience and there are lots of ways to keep active, whether you join the gym, try out a fitness class or take part in a sports club.

We are committed to providing regular opportunities for students to share their views, ensuring that they are active co-creators of their student experience.

Throughout the year there are opportunities for you to have your say about a variety of topics, in a variety of ways.

The Students' Union has elected sabbatical officers who work full-time to represent you and champion student causes. In addition, the Union council includes black, minority ethnic, disabled, international, LGBTQIA+, transgender, mature, women and postgraduate officers to ensure a diverse student voice is heard and everyone has their say.

The Student Course representatives act as a voice for the students on their course. They are elected by their fellow students, and get to participate in staff-student meetings known as student forums which normally take place once a semester/trimester.

Each year, in addition to course and module evaluations, we invite you to take part in the national student surveys. There are different surveys for different levels of study and research, but they all focus on your student experience.

We are committed to preparing our students for life after University and helping them to secure a graduate job and successful career.

As a student, you have access to careers advice at the Career and Enterprise Hub. This includes 1-1 career appointments, workshops, live chat and tools like Career Pulse, CV360, and Interview360.

We support students into further study and there are a variety of postgraduate courses to choose from at the University, whether it is a taught Masters, a research degree or a teaching qualification.

As a CCCU graduate, you will also be part of our vibrant alumni community. Through your Alumni Hub, you can access ongoing careers support, find out about job vacancies, get details of discounts on postgraduate study, and access a range of networking events.
