Most students will have an Academic Development Week at some point in their academic year.

Academic Development Week is the perfect opportunity to take time to reflect on your learning so far. No matter what year you're in, or what your academic goals are, there is a range of support available to help you reach your full potential. 

1) Connect with your Personal Academic Tutor

Make sure you connect with your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) as they can help you to prepare for the year ahead, to review feedback from previous assessments, and identify any academic skills you may need to develop to reach your goals. 

2) Take the 20 minute Expect Respect Welcome Module to win great prizes!

This Expect Respect Welcome Module will introduce you to the university and cover some important topics for student life, including building your supportive network, our Expect Respect campaign, staying safe and cultivating healthy relationships.

When you complete this module, you will be entered into a prize draw, with a chance to win some amazing CCCU goodies and experiences!

3) Access the Learning Skills Hub

The Learning Skills Hub offers a structured learning environment to develop your skills- providing you with the top tips, further resources and opportunities to review your learning. The Hub offers a range of modules including time management, referencing, and writing assignments. There are also dedicated modules especially designed for your subject areas and you can book a 1-1 tutorial with your Faculty Learning Skills Team.

4) Rediscover Your Library

As well as your physical libraries - there's also a host of online resources available to you through Your Digital Library. From accessing e-books and journals, to exploring multimedia and databases - see what you can discover!

Use this week to explore... Your subject guide. This guide enables you to easily identify some of the most useful resources available for your course.

5) Get IT Savvy

Did you know that you have access to a range of free software which can help you with your course? Plus, there's a variety of free productivity tools, apps and software to assist with your learning, support your studies, ensure accessibility and enable you to reach your full potential.

Use this week to explore... The Microsoft 365 Training Centre. Here you can find helpful guides on programmes such as Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and much more!

  • 6) Chat to a Peer Mentor

Our Student Peer Mentors are current students, trained to provide a safe and confidential space for you to talk freely and ask questions. They can provide reassurance and guidance to help you succeed in your studies, build support networks and feel connected to the wider University community.

Late Arrivals

If you started the academic year late or missed some lessons, the Academic Development Week is the perfect time to catch up and get up to speed. 

  • Catch up on classes you've missed. Blackboard is our virtual learning environment. This is where you’ll find all your learning materials and information from your course, including recordings of previous lectures.

International Students

For international students, Academic Development Week, is the perfect time to further develop your skills.

  • Our International Student Success Programme is an online module which provides you with all the practical advice you need for living and studying in the UK. It also offers guidance on how to make friends, build your confidence and look after your wellbeing.

  • If English is not your first language don’t forget you can get in contact with the Academic English Support service – they can provide support and help you achieve your goals!
