I'm a Reader in Clinical Psychology in the Salomons Centre for Applied Psychology. I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1996 with a psychology degree, and went on to study for a Ph.D. in experimental psychology at the university. The research area was sequence learning. Following this, I trained as a clinical psychologist at the University of Surrey, qualifying in 2003. For the next four years I worked full time in the NHS, dividing my time between a community mental health team for working age adults and a psychological therapies service. I joined Canterbury Christ Church University in 2008 and continue to work part-time in Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, in 'Health in Mind', an improving access to psychological therapies service.
My clinical work is with adults with common mental health problems and my main therapeutic approaches are cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy. My recent research interests include mindfulness-based approaches, associative learning, and application of learning theory to clinical problems.

I currently teach on the clinical psychology, CBT and PhD in professional practice programmes, mainly in relation to research methods and MBCT.
I'm registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council, a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a member of the Experimental Psychology Society, and I have a Post-Graduate Diploma and Certificate of Competence in Teaching Mindfulness-Based Courses from the University of Bangor.
