Sharon is a Senior Lecturer in Speech & Language Therapy and leads teaching on adult acquired conditions..

I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2004 and since this time have specialised in working with adults with acquired neurological and voice difficulties. After working in the NHS for many years, I set up my own independent practice in 2019 and continue to work clinically part-time. I was awarded my PhD from University College London (UCL) in 2020, and after this moved to working part-time in education. I worked as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Greenwich for three years and joined Canterbury Christ Church University in September 2023.

I currently lead teaching on anatomy and physiology and adult acquired communication and swallowing disorders. I am also a personal tutor and supervise student dissertations. I was awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Authority in December 2023.

Research interests & Supervison

My main area of research relates to working with people with severe and global aphasia after Stroke.  I have presented my research at many conferences, including the UK Stroke Forum and the British Aphasiology Society’s International Conference and Therapy Symposium. I am the author of the book 'Working with Global Aphasia: Theory and Practice'. I am also passionate about increasing diversity within the Speech and Language Therapy Profession and have contributed to a number of publications in this regard, most recently a book entitled 'A vision from the margin: Intersectional insights on navigating diversity in Speech and Language Therapy'.

I am a Visiting Lecturer at UCL, and also contribute to teaching and examining for the MSc Speech and Language Therapy programme at the University of Ghana.
