Overview
The BSc (Hons) in Business Management & Economics course with Foundation Year covers a wide range of theoretical and analytical subjects, as well as methods for analysing real-world corporate and economic challenges. Business management and economic skills are interwoven, and you will gain knowledge that will help you comprehend and critically assess business, finance, marketing, and accounting methods.
Modules are taught by trained academics and industry practitioners. Academic staff are equipped with information, expertise, and resources to support your study. Modules are designed to improve your employability skills, graduation qualities, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Modules are graded on a mix of knowledge and abilities via tests, homework, and presentations.
You will improve your interpersonal and critical thinking skills whilst being both challenged and supported throughout your degree. We are one of the few universities in the UK offering direct use of Bloomberg data, information, and analytics in a dedicated trading room which provides a simulation of what it’s like to work on a real trading floor in the financial district.
On this course you have the opportunity to include a professional placement year to gain real-world experience in business. The University will support you in finding suitable work placements, and you will also receive tutorial support from an academic member of staff throughout the year.
The foundation year will help you to broaden your industry knowledge and enable you to progress to a related undergraduate degree. It aims to help you develop a strong foundation of business knowledge, alongside academic and transferable skills to ensure you get the most out of your degree-level studies.

This course provides a distinct combination of knowledge and abilities for efficiently managing enterprises in various economic contexts. How you’ll learn
Our teaching team will share with you their expert knowledge, experience and research insights during stimulating lectures, seminars and practical workshops.
Teaching is structured to allow for flexibility, and blended learning is widely used to support both teaching, learning and student support. You may be in lectures, where the module leader delivers key material to you in a large group, or seminars where you'll discuss and develop, in smaller groups, your understanding of topics covered in lectures.
You may also experience workshops, which combine lectures and seminars when the class size is smaller. You'll also be supported by your personal academic tutor.
Teaching is structured to allow for flexibility. Your actual contact hours will depend on the optional modules you select.
However, typically you will have about 12 hours of structured contact time per week. For every hour of contact, you'll be expected to complete three hours of independent study.
You can opt to undertake a final year project that will be based on a live brief from a relevant industry.
When not attending lectures, seminars, workshops or other timetabled sessions, you'll continue learning through self-study. Typically, this involves reading journal articles and books, undertaking research in the library, working on projects, and preparing for coursework assignments/examinations, workshops and seminars.
Your lecturers will indicate specific readings and/or activities to complete before class. We will also provide reading lists for further study. Seminars are enriched when students have completed their independent reading, allowing everyone to interact with this learning and benefiting the whole group.
The Individual Study or Dissertation in your final year is a significant piece of independent research, where you may select a topic of special interest. You will be guided by a supervisor, but the main direction of the work will be decided by you.
You will be taught by academics at all stages of their careers, from postdoctoral researchers to professors, including others with extensive industry experience. Postgraduate students sometimes assist in teaching and assessing some modules. However, experienced academics teach the vast majority of lectures and seminars.
Every member of our teaching team is committed to innovative and engaging approaches to teaching, and members hold excellent teaching qualifications (Higher Education Academy accredited) and academic qualifications (PhDs in Economics, Business Management, Finance or other related disciplines).
We are also research active, publishing our research in academic journals and books, engaging in work with academic and professional bodies.
How you’ll be assessed
The course provides you with opportunities to test your understanding of the subject informally before you complete the formal assessments that count towards your final mark. Each module normally contains at least one piece of practice or 'formative' assessment for which you receive feedback from your tutor. Practice assessments are developmental, and any grades you receive for them do not count towards your module mark.
There is a formal or 'summative' assessment at the end of each module. Assessment methods include written examinations and a range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, performance, presentations, and your final year major project. The grades from formal assessments count towards your module mark.
The balance of assessment by examination and assessment by coursework depends on the optional modules you choose.
To progress from one level of study to the next, you must pass 120 credits (typically six 20 credit modules). The standard pass mark for a module is 40%.

Home (UK) Fees
Home (UK) tuition fees for Foundation Years at Canterbury Christ Church University will be set in line with the maximum tuition fee cap for foundation years in classroom-based subjects or non-classroom-based subjects, as set by the UK Government.
Home (UK) tuition fees for subsequent years 1-3 are currently set in line with the maximum tuition fee cap for standard undergraduate degrees set by the UK Government.
The Government has announced that it will increase the tuition fee cap by 3.1%, in line with inflation, for the 2025/26 academic cycle. Subject to parliamentary approval, the University intends to increase our tuition fees in line with this and as per our terms and conditions. This means that from September 2025 onwards, our undergraduate home tuition fees for subsequent years of study are expected to be £9,535.
Overseas/International Fees
Undergraduate / PGCE tuition fees for international students are not set by the UK Government.
