Are you looking to complement your degree with a year or semester at one of our established partner institutions? Well look no further!

What is a year or semester abroad and when does it take place?

Our Year Abroad takes place between Years 2 and 3 of your degree, lengthening your overall degree by an additional year. You'll be attending one of our partner institutions as a visiting/non-degree seeking students, getting the opportunity to really engage in an academic immersive experience.

You will traditionally study subjects related to their home degree, but have the opportunity to expand their subject knowledge and take bespoke and regionally (or institutionally) specific courses. This takes place from around mid-to-late August until late April/early May, but is considered as an academic year.

Our Semester Abroad takes place during the first semester of your 3rd/final year. You'll be attending one of our partner institutions and taking 4 modules that will count towards your overall degree classification. These modules will be directly linked to your degree and will be of relevant subject knowledge.

Funding and costs

Costs are institutionally dependent, but range from around $5,000 per Semester to $22,000 for the academic year. This includes living costs (such as room and board), university expenses (such as books) and health insurance but you will need to factor in the cost of your study permit or visa (£180-£280) as well as flights.

If you are eligible for Student Finance, they will usually still fund you for this additional year, assuming that your degree will be no more than 5 years long (including foundation years). Please contact them directly to confirm your eligibility. Student Finance also offer a Travel Grant for those students from a low-income background. This grant allows you to claim back costs of travel, visas and expenses after the first £303 per claim. More information can be found on the UK government website.
