Profile Summary

Before enrolling in the PhD programme at Canterbury Christ Church University, I completed an MSt in Applied Criminology at the University of Cambridge in 2018. I am currently an Assistant Commissioner with the New Zealand Police and have been a police officer for 22 years.  One of my portfolio’s is the New Zealand Police Evidence Based Policing Centre which conducts research for New Zealand police and works closely with academics from across the globe. I plan to get across to CCCU once the global CV19 pandemic improves in 2022.

Research Topic

Understanding, and predicting offending by those at risk of committing child homicide or critically injuring children in New Zealand.

Research Outline

My PhD focuses on understanding who is at greater risk of intentionally inflicting life-threatening injuries or killing a child, based on a range of variables analysed from a cohort of perpetrators who have committed this type of crime in New Zealand.  I hope that this research will help further strengthen child protection practice in New Zealand.

Supervisory Team
