Welcome to Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) and congratulations on beginning your General Engineering course at Canterbury Christ Church University. Over the next three years you will learn skills from different areas of Engineering such as Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics, Systems and more, which will help you develop your problem solving skills. Working with a diverse team you will get to apply your knowledge in solving different real-world issues and work towards improving the planet and the technologies in it.

Welcome

Welcome to General Engineering at Canterbury Christ Church University. We hope to help you enhance your engineering skills over the course of your degree and get you prepared for academia or industry and hopefully help you apply the skills to the industry of your liking.

Please be assured that you will be fully supported when you start at CCCU to make sure that your transition to higher education is as smooth as possible and you will find the engineering staff friendly and readily available to support you with your studies. You will be allocated a personal tutor to provide you with academic and personal support and they will signpost you to other relevant departments for any additional help you may need.

You will have some induction activities at the beginning of the academic year that will help to get you organised and settled in and these continue throughout the year.

Getting started

The academic year at Canterbury Christ Church University is split into two semesters – one running from September to January and a second one from late January to May.

Each Semester you will study different modules covering different areas of General Engineering.

Year 1 Core Modules

Semester 1

  • Mathematics and Computing for Engineers
  • Introduction to Engineering Design
  • Introduction to Elec/Mechanical Systems and Practice

Semester 2

  • Introduction to Material Engineering Characteristics & Manufacture
  • Professional Practical Engineering (With Mechatronics Project)

On the social side, the Student Union (CCSU) has a huge range of clubs and societies – all of which have unique social calendars of their own and offer endless opportunities to make lifelong friends and discover new hobbies. And you can always create your own society and cultivate your own community!

CCSU will be hosting their Welcome Fayre on Wednesday 18th September 2024. Make sure you keep checking the CCSU website for further details and how to get involved.

We understand that you may be nervous about your first few weeks on campus but rest assured - you'll be joining a nurturing and supportive environment where diversity, equality and individuality are part of everything we do.

Detailed reading lists for each module and the course will be provided during Welcome Week and will be included in your module handbooks.
