Your Course
On the course, you will be taught by module lead specialists from both Physical Education and Sport & Exercise Science.
Some modules will be for students on the Physical Education and Sport & Exercise Science degree only and some modules you will learn alongside students from other sports courses.
The modules you will be studying in Semester 1 will be:
- Physical Education module - Introduction to Physical Education – module lead: Laura Gubby
- Sport & Exercise module - Human Body Science - module lead: Caroline Digby-Bowl
- University module: Your Journey to Success at CCCU (Transition into Higher Education)
Teaching
Teaching for your degree will be focused on theory and applied practice with lectures, seminars, workshops, Lab sessions and time for practical learning.
Teaching will take place over several venues including the Labs in the Verena Holmes Building on the Canterbury campus and at the University Sports Centre at Polo Farm Sports Ground, Littlebourne Road, Canterbury CT3 4AF.
The Polo Farm facility is a 6-minute drive from the Canterbury campus with a free shuttle bus transporting students at regular intervals throughout the day aligned to the start and finish of lectures. Alternatively, there is free parking at Polo Farm for those driving.
The first few weeks in Semester 1 will be an ideal time to learn about the content and structure of each module and for you to get to know your module leads and the students on your course, as well as from the wider student community across all sports courses.
We will be able to support you as you start on your academic learning journey and provide personal, wellbeing and academic support as required. We will also sign post you to the Learning Skills Hub where students can find additional support for your study, academic and research skills.
Blackboard
’Blackboard' is the University virtual teaching platform where module leads will upload essential module materials and weekly lecture information, readings, assessment guidance and support.
If applicable, lectures will also be recorded through the University Recap system so that students can review learning outside of the timetabled sessions.
To help you prepare
Please bring a laptop, or similar, to each session to support note taking and research and be prepared to learn practically by wearing sport clothing. There are changing rooms at all venues should they be required.
My aim as Course Director for the first few weeks is for you to feel welcomed, supported and confident in you place as a student on the Physical Education and Sport & Exercise Science.
