Canterbury Christ Church Senior Lecturer chosen as President-Elect of BANCC

Liz Williams appointed President Elect of the British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care

After a two-year term as the organisation’s Treasurer, Canterbury Christ Church Senior Lecturer Liz Williams has been appointed President-Elect of the British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care (BANCC) by her peers.

BANCC aims to provide a forum for communication, professional development and national representation for all nurses in the UK who are involved in the care of cardiovascular patients. Within her current role at the university, Liz is the course lead for the post-graduate Cardiac Arrhythmias and Heart Failure modules (part of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work). She is also the Programme Director for the Non-Medical Prescribing programme within the Institute of Medical Sciences

“In addition, I facilitate on many of the undergraduate adult nursing modules and specialise in acute care and cardiology within this role,” Liz explained. “My previous experiences in practice as a cardiac specialist nurse and as an independent non-medical prescriber mean that I have experience of cardiovascular care in nursing to bring to the table. I have had the benefit of a broad range of experience both in acute and community settings over the years and, I feel that this will benefit the work that BANCC do.

“As President Elect I will have the opportunity to learn the ropes for becoming president in two years’ time, shadowing the president and deputising when required. I will also be able to keep myself up to date with current knowledge and assist in raising the profile of the university at a national level,” Liz continued.

BANCC is affiliated with the British Cardiovascular Society and is often involved in projects at national level in raising awareness of cardiovascular disease and involvement with national guidance.

“I hope to use this opportunity to encourage new members to join BANCC, and to share the wealth of experience the council can offer with tool such as teaching, communication forums and knowledge exchanges,” Liz concluded. “This will then allow nurses in cardiovascular care to have a voice both nationally and internationally.”
