Microsoft Authenticator app

Use the Microsoft Authenticator app to confirm your identity when you login to University systems away from campus.

Step-by-step instructions

  • If you don’t have the Microsoft Authenticator app set up here, click on Add Method.

  • Find Authenticator app in the drop-down menu and click on Add.

  • On your mobile phone, visit the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search for Microsoft Authenticator.

  • Tap on Install.

  • When it has downloaded and installed, select Open.​​​​​​​

  • In the browser on your computer, click on Next.​​​​​​​

  • On your phone, tap on I agree to agree to the terms and conditions.​​​​​​​

  • On your phone, select Scan a QR code.​​​​​​​
Sign in with Microsoft / Scan a QR code.
  • It will ask you if you want to allow Authenticator to take pictures and record video. Select Allow or While using the app.​​​​​​​

  • On your computer, click on Next.​​​​​​​
Set up your account.
  • This will bring up a QR code on the screen, point your phone camera at the screen to scan it.
Scan the QR code.
  • You may get a message on your phone telling you App Lock is enabled. Tap OK. ​​​​​​​

  • On your computer, click on Next.​​​​​​​

  • You will then receive a message on your phone asking you to approve sign-in. Select Approve. Depending on your phone settings, you may need to use your phone pin or fingerprint sensor too.​​​​​​​

  • On your computer, click Next.​​​​​​​

  • The Authenticator app is now all set up.

  • Select Microsoft Authenticator – notification from the drop-down menu and click on Confirm.​​​​​​​
Change default method
  • When trying to log in with your CCCU account, you will see this message come up:

  • You will then receive a message on your phone asking you to approve sign-in. Select Approve. Depending on your phone settings, you may need to use your phone pin or fingerprint sensor too.
Approve sign-in?
  • You will then be able to proceed as normal. The approval lasts for 31 days for staff, or until you sign out of the approved app.
