4:00pm - 5:30pm

Dr Giorgia Tolfo of The National Archives joins us for a special guest lecture.

For those working in an archive, confronting difficult records or experiencing emotional labour is almost inevitable. This can happen in many ways: looking or working with specific records, organising or cataloguing them, engaging with researchers, visitors or communities, as well as in many other ways.

This talk takes two case studies - a research into the birth of women’s refuges in 1974, and the three-parts article “Walking through archived colonial history” – as a starting point to reflect on the importance of emotions in the archive, how creative research methods can help exploring them and on the importance of trauma-informed practice.
