The processes for design, development, approval and review of courses are set out in the following pages, together with what to do when changing the status of a course.

These processes have been designed to ensure the University meets its responsibilities for setting and maintaining academic standards, and assuring and enhancing the quality of learning outcomes.

The course planning process ensures that there is an in-principle case for inclusion of a course in the University's academic portfolio.

course DEVELOPMENT

Once the planning stage has been completed and approved, course design is undertaken to further develop the approaches to Learning and Teaching and industry engagement including Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRB) where applicable.

course APPROVAL

The approval process involves an examination of the academic plans for a course of study. It focuses on whether the course meets national and subject expectations and whether it is likely to provide a learning experience of high quality.

All courses and partnerships must undergo Periodic Course (and Partnership) Review.
