I am currently the School Director of Learning and Teaching in the School of Humanities and Education Studies in the Faculty of Arts, Education and Humanities. In this role, I support colleagues across the school to develop appropriate pedagogical practices to support high-quality learning and teaching.

I lead staff development, enabling colleagues to support new practices and institutional initiatives and policies. Essential to the role is developing a learning community for students, staff and alumni. This is developed through the organisation of shared opportunities for students, staff and alumni through lectures, conferences, external events, and guest speakers. The role entails supporting student experience and retention by establishing a strong personal & academic tutoring system. In addition, supporting students from a range of diverse backgrounds orientation to the university and positive strategies to support transitions throughout the academic journey.

Previously, I was an acting Faculty Director of Special Educational Needs and Inclusion. I had varied leadership roles and responsibility for ensuring high-quality teaching and learning enabling positive student experience. The Directorate was responsible for a range of programmes including short courses with collaborative partners, undergraduate programmes, postgraduate programmes and courses with National Accreditation. The range of courses enables an overview of different student bodies and the need to adapt strategies appropriately to endeavour not only equality of experience but tailoring approaches to the curriculum to ensure the diverse range of students have an exciting, supportive and relevant academic journey. I have worked on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the Faculty of Education including the BA QTS and the PGCE Primary. I also had the opportunity to work with colleagues from the Early Childhood Studies programme team to write the validation for Omiros Aegean College and developed the BSC Honours Early Childhood Education with a Special Needs pathway.

My current research investigates students independent learning journeys and their perceptions of student support, as well as detailing students with disabilities becoming empowered by tailored learning support plans. In addition identifying the different perceptions of learning support between students and lecturers. I am also involved in the CCCU epistemic insight research group. I lead a project on developing discovery bags to support year 5 pupils to learn through, discovery, exploration and questioning. The theme of Oliver Twist enabled students to question Victorian society and develop an understanding of social justice. My master research examined the role of parent partnerships in early years education. The findings were disseminated and piloted by the local education authority.

I am a school governor focusing on developing new early years proviso in a primary school. The provision hopes to develop oncomes for children with diverse backgrounds. I am also an external examiner.
