I studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and then completed a PhD at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Berne, Switzerland, focusing on the role of HER2 in breast cancer.
Having observed the techniques of genetic engineering being applied with few legal constraints in the 1980s, I became increasingly interested in the ethical issues raised. This led me to study for an MA in Medical Law and Ethics at King’s College London while working as a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry. My career has spanned academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and the charitable sector. I have been lecturing at the Institute of Medical Sciences since 2023, with a focus on research skills and research ethics.
