Welcome

You can find an overview of the MA and a brief summary of all the modules here.

Your welcome and induction will be w/c 16 September 2024 - we look forward to meeting you then.

Pre-course reading

In the first Trimester, you will take three modules: Case Studies in Early Modern Literature, Classic Children's Literature and Research and Scholarship. No preparatory reading is required, but if you wish to read ahead, here are some suggestions:

Case Studies in Early Modern Literature: This year the module will centre on the works of Christopher Marlowe. If you would like to read ahead, we will cover all the texts included in the Penguin Classics edition of Marlowe's Complete Plays. For background on all things Elizabethan we recommend David Riggs, The World of Christopher Marlowe (Faber & Faber, 2004).

Classic Children's Literature: This module covers nine classic texts in Children literature. If you would like to read ahead, you could start with Charles Kingsley's The Water-Babies, Lewis Carroll's Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, or H. Rider Haggard's King Solomon’s Mines. Please get hold of the Oxford World’s Classics editions of these books.

Our University Bookshop offers 10% discount on most titles in print and have some price-beating book bundles. They also price match Amazon on all the module set texts.
