We're delighted to announce an exciting partnership between the University and Christ Church Students' Union (SU) that will bring significant enhancements to the Canterbury campus experience for the start of the new academic year in September.

Over the summer, two projects, backed by a joint investment of £1.4 million, will be undertaken to establish a vibrant hub for the SU and a brand new Multi-Use Games Area. These developments are a direct response to student feedback and a testament to our commitment to creating a lively and engaging campus for our students.

The Students' Union Hub

An area in Anselm will be developed into a dynamic Students' Union Hub which will include a variety of offices, meeting rooms, and social areas to enable the SU to deliver a range of activities, events, and services on campus. It will include a games zone, communal kitchen, lounge area and events spaces helping to bring the community together.

The Lounge Bar and Kitchen will remain at St George's Centre.

SU Hub

The University has continually invested in enhancing our campuses as part of our commitment to providing an outstanding student experience. I am pleased that as a University we have listened to our students and have been able to invest in this exciting new space for the Students’ Union which will bring our Canterbury campus to life and provide our students with opportunities to get involved and connect with the wider community.

Professor Rama ThirunamachandranVice-Chancellor

The Students’ Union and University are working together to create a vibrant space for students to study, socialise, and relax and it will be nothing like any of the existing student spaces at the University. It’s so important for the Students’ Union to be at the heart of our campuses as it enables us to best support and represent our members. I cannot wait to see it finished in September and utilised by our students

Multi-Use Games Area

The area around Moore will be developed into a dedicated space for sports and physical activities on campus. Designed in close consultation with the SU and Christ Church Sport and Active Health Team, the plan is to remove some portacabins and create a multi-use space that will feature tennis, netball, and basketball courts, as well as space for football.

MUGA

I’m absolutely delighted that we will have a dedicated space for recreational sport and physical activity back on main campus. Being active is a vital part of our wellbeing, and playing sport and engaging in physical activity with friends and colleagues is a huge part of the University experience for many. This is great news for our University community.

Paul Carney the Director of Sport & Active Health

I'm so excited to see this project finish in time for new students joining us in September, and the positive impact it will have on our Student Community - for both our sporting members, as well as students who are just looking to socialise, destress and have fun. With the continuous, fantastic work from Christ Church Sport, I am in no doubt that the Multi-Use Games Area will act as a beacon on the Canterbury Campus engaging students further within their University Experience
