Welcome to the Assessment Only route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at CCCU. This course is designed for experienced teachers who are ready to demonstrate that they already meet the Teachers’ Standards and achieve QTS without undertaking a full training programme. I am the Course Director, Dr Charlotte Cooper, and I look forward to meeting you and supporting you through this process. With multiple start points available throughout the year, you will begin the course at the most appropriate time for you, and we will work together from the outset to ensure you are fully prepared for assessment.

Dr Charlotte Cooper
Course Director

Welcome

The Assessment Only course is a 12-week programme designed for experienced, unqualified teachers who are ready to be awarded QTS without the need for further training. Throughout the course, you will work closely with an expert in your phase and, for secondary applicants, your subject specialism. This individual will act as your personal academic tutor, overseeing your progress and supporting you across the full 12 weeks of the course.

Getting started

There are no modules to study on this course, as it is an assessment-only route, and there is no formal teaching provided. Instead, the course is designed to assess your existing teaching practice and your suitability to be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

A central component of this process is your teaching portfolio, which you will access via the University’s Blackboard site once you are registered on the course. This online portfolio is essential to your assessment, and you will be expected to engage with it confidently. If you are not familiar with, or do not feel confident using digital platforms, you are strongly encouraged to access support from the Learning Skills Hub to ensure you are fully prepared.

Before applying, it is important that you read the application and interview guidance carefully. You are expected to have a range of documents and evidence ready to demonstrate your suitability for QTS. This evidence should be in place at the start of the course.

Your Must Do Tasks

Once you have been invited to register for your course, there are some key tasks you'll need to complete to make sure you are ready to become a CCCU student.

Registration invitations are sent towards the end of August. We'll send yours to the email address you used when you applied, so please check this inbox regularly to make sure you don't miss any important information.

Pre-course reading

There is no reading required for this course as it is an assessment only route. Familiarity with the UK Teaching Standards is strongly advised.
