Using a journal to improve your wellbeing

Using Prompts in Journal Writing

As a starting point, or prompt for your journal writing, you might want to choose a line from a song or something you overheard someone say. Anything can be chosen as a prompt.

  • Why not try using some of these prompts? What is your internal weather like today?
  • What’s on your mind?
  • I wonder what I really want?
  • What makes me happy?
  • Me at my best.
  • The present moment.
  • The earth under my feet…
  • When the sky cleared…

Check out Creative Writing Now for more examples of journal prompts.

The Isolation Journals may also give you some creative inspiration.

Using Self- Reflection in your journal writing

Before you leave the page, allow yourself a bit of time to notice what has come up for you in the writing. You could add a sentence at the end of your journal entry.

  • What I notice is...
  • When I read this, I feel...
  • I see…
  • I’m aware of…
