Getting started

We are looking forward to welcoming you at Canterbury Christ Church University. To help get you started we’ve put together some information which you may find useful.

All new staff are invited to complete the following module upon joining the University. It is designed to complement the Staff Orientation and Welcome event and aims to provide new staff with an introduction to the University, its history, the strategic framework, and working within the higher education sector as well as campus introductions. 

Please register with elearning using the following details:

  • your email address in the format of firstname.surname@canterbury.ac.uk
  • a password you will remember as you wil need this to complete other elearning courses.

Once accessed please click on the course dashboard, then click on the catalogue tab and choose online induction module and enrol.

The University is required, by law to obtain proof of right to work in the UK for all staff.

Right to work checks need to be carried out in person, if your documentation wasn’t taken at interview please bring it to HR&OD in Rochester House before you start.  If you have any queries or are unable to bring your documentation in before your start date,  please contact HR&OD.

You can complete your new starter forms securely online by clicking on the below links. We will need these in order to set you up on the University systems including the payroll system and to give you access to University services.

Please complete all forms at your earliest convenience and before your start date. Please note certain features of these forms are not compatible with earlier versions of Internet Explorer. Browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and Safari are compatible.

Some key bits of information we may require are:

  • DBS application. Depending on your role you may be required to carry out a DBS check. If you do we will create an online account for you and send you your log on details. You will receive these via email and will need to log on to select what identification you will provide. Original documentation must be provided to HR&OD before you start. View DBS Policy Statement.
  • You may be required to provide evidence of your highest academic qualification. Please bring your original certificate to HR&OD before you start.

All other paperwork can be sent by post and email.

Once we have received you right to work documentation your University computing account will be enabled. You will receive an email, to your personal e-mail account if you have provided one, 5 days before your start date with information on how to activate and access your account. 

If you experience any problems with this process, please contact the Staff IT Service.

A smart card will give you access to buildings and printing as well as providing you with a visual identity and link with the University. You will only be able to apply for a smart card once your computing account has been setup.

To apply for a smart card you will need to upload a passport-style photograph on the photo-upload section of StaffNET Services.

If you drive you may be eligible for a parking permit*. Please contact the  Facilities Helpdesk to discuss your parking options.

* Subject to the criteria laid out in the University Car Parking Policy, you may be eligible to apply for a parking permit to park on University Campuses. Please contact the  Facilities Helpdesk  for further information.

Payday is the last working day of each month. Payment is made via BACS transfer directly into your bank account.
