Canterbury Christ Church University welcomes Hampton University Concert Choir from Virginia USA as part of their UK tour.
The Hampton University Concert Choir from Virginia US under the direction of Prof. Omar Dickenson in collaboration with Christ Church University Gospel Choir, invite you to an afternoon of Spiritual and Gospel music.
The Hampton University Choir tour celebrates the 95th anniversary of their first European tour in 1930 and continues with its vision of African American music as both fine art and a force for global connection. Their UK tour embodies their mission of educating through music, building cultural bridges, and honouring the extraordinary foundation of R Nathaniel Dett, the director from the 1930 tour. Renowned for their powerful voices and stage presence, the Hampton University Concert Choir has maintained a repertoire of choral masterworks from some of the most prolific American composers. In 2023, they were invited to sing at the White House for President Biden as part of Black Music Month.
Canterbury Christ Church Gospel choir celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and continues with their mission to maintain a community within our university of students, alumni and staff, joining together in fellowship, and spreading the message of 'community' through Gospel music.
