PGCE Teacher Enquiry (PGCE Top-UP)

If you are a teacher who already holds QTS and would like to top up your qualification to PGCE, this is the course for you. The PGCE is an internationally recognised qualification and could help further career both in the UK and abroad. This PGCE programme is suitable for those teaching in Early Years Foundation Stage, Primary and Secondary schools.

You will already be a qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and working in a school. The PGCE Teacher Enquiry will top up your existing qualification to help to progress in your teaching career. It is studied alongside full­-time or part-time employment.

This PGCE top-up will you allow you to gain up to 60 Masters-level credits which will allow you access to further Masters and Doctoral study.

You will study three modules (all 20 credits):

Professional Policy and Practice in Education
You will study current developments in teaching and learning. Through your studies, you will learn how to critically evaluate how school policy and ethos have an impact on your students' learning.

Subject Pedagogy
This module will allow you to develop your understanding of the curriculum and teaching approaches. You will concentrate on your chosen subject and age phase. Through examining research, alongside school data, and analysis of pupil progress, you will gain a deeper understanding of your subject.

Practitioner Research in Education
You will undertake a mini-research project in your own educational setting driven by your own interests. It is anticipated that some of these projects may contribute to your school’s improvement plan.

The PGCE Teacher Enquiry may enhance your promotion prospects and reinvigorate your career. You may also go on to study an MA or PhD.

You will be taught through a variety of activities. Some of these include group seminars and lectures, tutorials, workshops and activities. You will examine your teaching practice and do some independent study.

As you progress through the course, you will be become more research literate. Your modules will support, complement and extend your practice in school. The sessions are held at our Canterbury Campus and are run in the evenings from 6-9pm. In general, each module consists of five taught sessions (subject to change depending on cohort).   

A variety of assessment approaches will be used to enable you to show your knowledge, skills and understanding. These may include essays, presentations, and portfolio assessment.
