Clearing opens in July, but if you already have your results you can apply right now through UCAS.

Be sure to check out our useful guide to funding your studies and remember that life experience counts! We recognise that people go to university at all stages of life and we're set up to help everyone achieve their educational goals.

What is Clearing?

Clearing is the period in which UCAS works together with universities to help fill any available places they may have. In 2024 Clearing opens on Friday 5 July. You are eligible to apply for a course through Clearing if you:

  • gained the exact or better grades than required, but want to go to a different university
  • didn't meet the conditions required
  • weren't made any offers
  • declined your offers

Clearing also gives people who may not have thought about going to university the opportunity to apply.

Clearing: what you need to know

  1. Call us on our Clearing hotline on 01227 926000 - we'll discuss your course options and will help you find the right course for you. You can also contact us via our social media channels and apply through them. Find us on X, Instagram and Facebook.
  2. Wait for your offer - if we don't offer you a place on the phone, you will receive a response to your application within 48 hours.
  3. If you receive an offer, you'll have 24 hours to add this as your clearing choice on the UCAS Hub.

People just like you use Clearing every year as a way of determining the best path for them into university. When you join university, you won't be the only person to have come in through Clearing! This shared experience means that you will have a support network for when you arrive in September.

Universities are always prepared for a few tears when going through Clearing, too, and we are there to support you however we can.

Clearing opens on Friday July 5 this year. If you have any questions, call our Clearing hotline on 01227 926000.

The best thing you can do if you want to understand your options is chat to us. Clearing doesn't just start on results day, so we are there to provide support, guidance or just a friendly ear in advance of you getting your grades. Our dedicated team will talk to you about your circumstances and what you want to study and will do their best to help.

If you already have your grades then don't delay - give us a call or fill in our contact form and we will get back to you!

No, in many instances you don't!

If you have decided that the choices you have already made via UCAS aren't for you for whatever reason, even if you already have offers, chat to us. Many people decide to use Clearing because their circumstances have changed, they want to live closer to home or even because they're looking for a career change and want to begin this at university. It's a great way of taking control of your future.

Whatever your reasons for using Clearing, call us on +44 (0)1227 926000 and we'll do our best to help.

No, you don't need to go through Clearing if you're an existing offer holder with us but want to swap courses!

You simply need to contact our admissions team and they will consider you for your alternative course, provided it has vacancies.

If you aren’t holding an offer with us but want to swap courses to one at CCCU, give us a call on 01227 926000 and our Clearing team will advise you on whether we would make you an offer through Clearing and what you need to do to take up any offer.

Each year, UCAS and universities and colleges are given early access to results under strict embargo. This helps us prepare and make offer decisions before results day.

The UCAS embargo runs from 2pm on Friday 11th to 8am on Thursday 17th - results day.

It's important that you are aware that if you are an applicant, you will have limited access to MyRecord over this period. In addition, we will not be able to discuss your status with you during this time.

The good news is that we can still take clearing applications during the embargo:

  • If you have your results already we can make an offer
  • If you are awaiting your results, we can complete a form so that it is ready and wait for results day before deciding on whether we can make you an offer.

Yes, of course! The best thing to do is to apply as soon as you can. It really isn't too late to apply but the later you leave it, the later you may receive your money.

If your household income details are yet to be reviewed on your application for when you start uni, you'll receive the minimum student loan. This will make sure that you have money in your bank for when you start your course. Then, once the rest of your application has been reviewed, you'll receive the rest of the money that you're eligible for (if you're eligible, of course).

If anything changes, for example if you decide to change universities or your living arrangements change, then simply log in to your student finance account and add a change.

For more detailed instructions and real-life examples of applying for student finance through Clearing, go to the gov website for more information.

We offer a comprehensive range of undergraduate courses across the arts, health, teaching, sciences and engineering. Many of our courses can also be undertaken with a Foundation Year, which is a great way of getting into higher education if you have lower grades or choose to take a year to acclimatise to university life and study.

We recommend that you look through our Clearing courses and then contact us to discuss your choice or choices.

Whatever happens on results day, don't panic! You are in control!

Whether you've achieved your target grades but have decided you don't want to go to any of your initial choices, haven't received an offer, or have not quite got the grades you wanted, we can help. Just follow these three steps:

  1. Have your grades and UCAS ID to hand (it's useful to have your GCSE English and Maths grades in mind, too).
  2. Think about the course or subject area you wish to study.
  3. Call us on our Clearing hotline 01227 926000.

If you want university accommodation, we've got you covered. If you apply for a course through Clearing at our Canterbury Campus, and are made an offer or accept an interview, we guarantee you a bedroom in university-approved accommodation for your first year through our Accommodation Guarantee scheme.

You will also need to have your student loan in place. We have lots of information about how student fees and funding works on the website, and you can also call our Course Enquiries team to chat about student finance on 01227 926000.

Finally, if you've not been before, why not come and visit us? We'd love to meet you!
